May 13 is World Fair Trade Day

New Hamburg, Ont.

May 13 is celebrated around the globe as World Fair Trade Day—a time for honouring the achievements that fair trade organizations have made in strengthening international development. On this day, Ten Thousand Villages stores across Canada invite community members to join them as they mark the day with activities for kids, fair trade sampling, special draws and more!

Purchasing fair trade products—coffee, jewellery and handicrafts for the home—offers increased support to farmers and artisans in places such as Bangladesh, Uganda and Haiti, by providing much needed income. As a result, their children can go to school and their families are healthier.

Around the world, thousands of people are working together to build community and change lives through fair trade. On May 13, World Fair Trade Day events will take place in more than 60 countries, as well as across Canada.
