Winnipeg, Man.-The men's and women's basketball teams at Canadian Mennonite University each won championship trophies at the North American Baptist College HoopFest in Edmonton in early February. The tournament featured teams from Canadian Bible College in Regina, Nazarene University College in Calgary, Peace River Bible Institute, Rocky Mountain College and the host college. CMU's Sarah Peters of New Dundee, Ontario, and Derek Giesbrecht of Leduc, Alberta, were named Most Valuable Players. Harrisonburg, Va.-Eastern Mennonite University will
honour Myron S. and Esther Augsburger at celebrations next September
13-15. Myron was president of Eastern Mennonite College and Seminary
from 1965-80. He is also a well-known evangelist and author. Esther,
an artist, was one of the first art graduates of EMC and founded
the art program at Eastern Mennonite High School. The couple helped
establish Washington Community Fellowship in Washington, D.C.
and have been involved in Christian ministry for nearly 50 years.
Highlights of the weekend will be the establishment of the Myron
S. Augsburger Endowed Chair of Theology at Eastern Mennonite Seminary,
and naming the expanded art building the Esther K. Augsburger
Art Center. EMU hopes to raise $3 million for the endowed chair.
Speaker for the weekend will be Peter Kusmic of Gordon-Conwell
Theological Seminary, a friend of the Augsburgers.-From EMU release
