Elkhart, Ind.-Martha "Marty" Lehman began as interim president of Mennonite Board of Missions on May 1. Stanley Green has resigned from that position to head the new mission agency of Mennonite Church USA. Lehman, who has been vice-president since 1998, will lead MBM until January 31 when the 120-year-old agency comes to an end. "My goal is to bring MBM to a good close," she said. Lehman is a member of College Mennonite Church in Goshen, Indiana.-From MBM release

Winnipeg, Man.-A highlight of the mother-daughter retreat at Moose Lake Camp was painting clay pots and then baking bread in them (see back cover). Speaker at the March 9-11 event was Erin Morash, associate pastor at North Kildonan Mennonite Church. She talked about fair fighting in families and that sometimes true peace comes only after conflict. She also raised awareness of how clothes are manufactured, sometimes with unfair practices. The girls loved the idea of dressing up in the "fair wear" clothing they created. The ski trails were perfect and the toboggan slide was also well used. The food was great, especially the freshly-baked bread. Teresa Klassen and daughter Sarah led the group in many new songs-the best one being "Superman grace." The group also sewed 20 school bags for Mennonite Central Committee.-From report by Connie Goertzen

Photo: Young women from the Cupesi Mennonite colony in Bolivia put together school kits for students in their region. After floods hit the area in February, various organizations helped rebuild, but education seemed "to be falling through the cracks," said Frank and Christine Elias, Mennonite Central Committee workers here. So the Eliases purchased supplies locally with MCC funds and called on the Mennonite colonists to help. These young women completed 3,200 kits, including 220 with crayons for kindergartners. The colony also helped distribute the supplies at five schools. Students responded with songs, speeches and enthusiastic hugs, said Frank Elias.-From MCC release. Photo by Christine Elias
